Richard Brookhiser, senior editor of the National Review and well-known biographer and historian, will present the 2017 R. Gerald McMurtry Lecture at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19th. His lecture, titled “Abraham Lincoln and His Fathers,” is based on his 2014 book Founders’ Son: A Life of Abraham Lincoln and will explore Lincoln’s respect for and admiration of the Founding Fathers, whom Lincoln once referred to as “a forest of giant oaks” and “pillars of the temple of liberty.”

The program will be held in the Theater of the Allen County Public Library’s Main Library, 900 Library Plaza, Fort Wayne, on Tuesday, September 19, at 7:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the lecture.

The 2017 McMurtry Lecture is presented by the Friends of the Lincoln Collection of Indiana and sponsored by Steel Dynamics Inc. and PBS39 Fort Wayne.

The McMurtry Lecture series was established in Fort Wayne in 1978 to honor R. Gerald McMurtry, the second director of The Lincoln Museum. It is one of the premier annual events in the national Lincoln community, and its guest speakers have been among the leading authorities on Abraham Lincoln and his era.
